Oil on board, Signed & Inscribed lower right
Signed & Inscribed "Elektra" on right leg & "Clytemnestra" on left leg. Provenance: O'halloran Giles collection (former M.P.); Elder Fine Art, Adelaide; Private collection, Melbourne. Elektra was originally written in 500 BC by a Greek scholar, Sophocles. It has since been retold in many forms including Sir Robert Helpmann's Royal Ballet production of Malcolm Arnold's 'Elektra' at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden in London (early 1960's) for which Arthur Boyd created large canvas backdops and costumes. This work is a study for these backdrops and costumes. |
